THE X1.

350 watts. Three speed modes. They pick the colour — you pick how fast it goes.

All five Novi X1 colours side by side: red, blue, purple, teal and plain black

3 speed modes — 6mph, 10mph, 15mph

6mph to learn on. 10mph once they are braking without thinking about it. 15mph — the full 350 watts — when they are ready. The mode is set on the handlebar display, and the scooter can be locked and limited from your phone over Bluetooth.

The quick-release clamp that raises the handlebars from 90cm to 110cm

It still fits them at thirteen

The handlebars adjust from 90cm to 110cm on a quick-release clamp — 20 centimetres of growing room, no tools. That is the difference between a scooter outgrown in a season and one that lasts several. Rider limit is 120 kg, so it is not the scooter that gives up first.

The Novi X1 headlight lit, seen along the handlebar at dusk

Two brakes and a light that finds them

A thumb-operated electronic brake at the front and a foot brake on the rear mudguard — two independent systems, so a missed grab is not a problem. White LED front, red rear, and the rear light flashes under braking. The 8-inch honeycomb tyres are solid rubber: nothing to puncture on a kerb, a thorn or a stone.

25km*

*on paper, and on the lowest speed setting. Ridden the way a child actually rides it — full 15 mph mode, stop-start, up and down a hill — expect noticeably less from the 36V 6.6Ah battery, then four to five hours on the charger. You will get the honest number from us in the shop before you buy; that is rather the point of buying from one.

How it actually works

Our own run-through — switching speed modes, folding it, and charging it.

Quick answers

What age is it for?

Eight and up. The handlebars adjust from 90cm to 110cm, so it suits a small eight-year-old and still fits a teenager. Rider limit is 120 kg.

How fast does it actually go?

15 mph flat out, but that is the top of three modes — 6, 10 and 15 mph. Most parents start at 6 and move up. You can set and lock the mode from your phone.

Is it road legal?

No — private land with the landowner's permission only, like every private e-scooter in the UK. Gardens, farm lanes and private yards are fine. Full rules here.

How long does it take to charge?

Four to five hours from flat.

Is the purple one actually purple?

Every X1 is a black scooter with a coloured stripe on the stem and deck. So the purple one is black with purple detailing — worth knowing before it is unwrapped.

Can it be ridden in the rain?

Light rain is fine (IP54). Standing water and deep puddles are not — same as any e-scooter.

About this ride

The Novi X1 Kids Electric Scooter — 15 mph, Ages 8+ in detail

A first electric scooter that still fits them in three years

The Novi X1 is built for riders from about 8 years old, and the two things that matter most to a parent are the two things it does best: you can limit how fast it goes, and you can raise the handlebars as they grow.

Start them slow. Open it up when they are ready.

Three speed modes, set on the handlebar display:

  • 6 mph — walking-pace-plus, for learning on
  • 10 mph — once they are confident and braking properly
  • 15 mph — the full 350W, for older or more experienced riders

You can also lock the scooter and set the speed from your phone over Bluetooth, so the mode is your decision rather than an argument.

The handlebars adjust from 90cm to 110cm

That is the difference between a scooter they outgrow in a season and one that still suits them at thirteen. Same scooter, raised as they do.

Stopping and being seen

Two independent brakes — a thumb-operated electronic brake on the front and a foot brake on the rear mudguard — so there is a backup if one is missed. Front white LED and rear red LED, and the rear light flashes under braking. The 8-inch honeycomb tyres are solid, so there is nothing to puncture on a kerb or a thorn.

Folds into a car boot

It weighs 12.5kg and folds to 108 × 42 × 41cm with a quick-release catch — one movement, no tools. Takes about 4 to 5 hours to charge from flat, and covers up to 25km (15.5 miles) depending on the rider, the hills and the weather.

Choosing a colour

Five to pick from: black, blue, purple, red and teal. Every X1 is a black scooter with a coloured stripe on the stem and deck — so a purple one is black with purple detailing, not a purple scooter. Worth knowing before it is unwrapped.

Where it can be ridden in Northern Ireland

Privately owned land, with the landowner's permission. Private electric scooters are not legal on public roads, pavements or cycle lanes here — that is the law for every e-scooter sold in the UK, not something specific to this one. Gardens, farm lanes and private yards are all fine. The full rules, in plain English.

Questions parents ask us

Are kids’ electric scooter legal in the UK?

In the UK, kids' electric scooters are legal to use only on private property with the landowner's permission. It is illegal for children to ride privately owned electric scooters on public roads, pavements, cycle lanes, or parks, regardless of their age .

Private Land Only: Children can ride electric scooters on private land, such as a garden or driveway, provided they have the landowner's consent.

No Minimum Age for Private Land: There is no official minimum age for riding on private property, but manufacturers often recommend age limits based on scooter specifications

Can electric scooters get wet?

Electric scooters can handle some wet conditions, but how well depends on their water resistance rating. Most scooters have an IP rating (Ingress Protection) that shows how resistant they are to water and dust.

  • For example, IP54 means it can handle splashes but not heavy rain or puddles.
  • IP65 or higher means better water resistance and can handle stronger water jets or rain.
  • Avoid riding through deep puddles or heavy rain, as water can damage electrical components, cause corrosion, or affect brakes and tires.
  • After wet rides, dry your scooter thoroughly and check for any water ingress or rust.

What is the best electric scooter for off-road?

For off-road riding, you want an electric scooter that’s tough, powerful, and built to handle rough terrain. Here are some top features to look for:

  • Strong motor(s): At least 500W to 1000W+ for handling hills and uneven surfaces.
  • Big, rugged tires: Pneumatic (air-filled) tires, 8 inches or larger, with deep tread for grip.
  • Good suspension: Front and rear suspension to absorb shocks on bumpy trails.
  • Sturdy frame: Durable, preferably aluminium or steel.
  • High battery capacity: For longer rides on tough terrain (at least 500Wh).
  • Water resistance: IP54 or higher to handle mud and light rain.
